City encourages public to attend the Bo-Kaap Informal Trading Facility Open Day

28 June 2023

The City of Cape Town is urging Capetonians to share their views on the proposed Bo-Kaap Informal Trading Facility.

The proposed Bo-Kaap Informal Trading Facility will be located at the corner of Yusuf Drive and Pentz Street and will be a key contributor to the tourist appeal of the area. As such, the proposed trade on this site would create further economic opportunities for the community and attract more tourists to Bo-Kaap.

The suggested market will include 12 trading bays, an office, toilets and a store room.

'The City's goal is to create dignified and accessible trading areas to grow the commercial and tourism potential of the site by providing attractive, heritage-approved roofed trading structures and other support facilities. With this open day, we are encouraging the community of Bo-Kaap and surrounds to learn all about the trading plan and how the market space will affect them,' said Alderman James Vos, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.

The public is invited to learn about the Bo Kaap Informal Trading Facility. Details of the open day are as follows:

Time:            09:00 to 15:00
